Chemical & Elemental Determination

Chemical analysis equipment is used to determine, characterize, and quantify chemical components in gas, liquid, and solid samples. Bioanalysis, nanotechnology, clinical chemistry, environmental and materials analysis, and forensics represent a few of the many areas of use for chemical analysis instruments.

What Are the Different Types of Chemical Analysis Equipment?

Instruments used to detect, analyze, and measure chemicals include:

  • Spectroscopy systems, such as MS, atomic absorption, atomic emission, UV-VIS, X-ray, and Raman
  • Gas chromatography and liquid chromatography systems, including HPLC and solid-phase extraction
  • Process analyzers including NIR
  • Refractometers, rheometers, viscometers, evaporators, thermal analyzers, and calorimeters
  • Pumps ranging from high-pressure syringe pumps to peristaltic pumps.

Considerations for Choosing Chemical Analysis Equipment:

Whether the playing field is manufacturing or research, a few common questions can help narrow the search for a new chemical analysis instrument: What kind of sample prep is required? Is it nondestructive? Is there a tradeoff regarding speed versus accuracy and sensitivity?

Narrow your focus to the best system for your lab, then consider pertinent features; in a GC system, for example, fast run times and easy-to-navigate software may be top priority.
